Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador
Honourable Danny Williams

Premier Danny Williams

Premier's Message

Friday, February 26, 2010 is Newfoundland and Labrador Day at the Olympics. A day when the focus and attention of the world will be on our province and all we have to offer. The 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games offers a unique opportunity to showcase Newfoundland and Labrador’s culture, heritage and artistic community to a national and global audience.

Newfoundland and Labrador Day will be a series of highly-promoted activities and events, both in Vancouver and here at home, which will showcase our rich culture and talented artists on an international stage. Events in our province will be designed to bring the Vancouver 2010 Winter Games, and all they represent, to Newfoundlanders and Labradorians.

There are many opportunities to catch the Olympic spirit, starting on November 11, 2009 when the Olympic Torch Relay arrives in the province. Community Celebrations have been planned and the Torch will travel to 42 communities and involve 330 torchbearers. Olympic-sized school commotions and celebration events are also being planned to bring the spirit of the Olympics back to Newfoundland and Labrador.

Join me in celebrating Canada’s Games as we ensure the Olympic spirit goes coast to coast to coast and touches the hearts and lives of the people in our province and country.

This is your opportunity to catch the Olympic spirit and inspire the pursuit of excellence in all aspects of life. Whatever your passion, strive for greatness and celebrate with the country as Canada prepares to welcome the world to the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.

Sincerely,

DANNY WILLIAMS, Q.C.
Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador
