Newfoundland and Labrador Day

Friday, February 26, 2010 is Newfoundland and Labrador Day at the Olympics, a day when the province will take centre stage during the world’s most high-profile international sporting event.

Newfoundland and Labrador Day will be a series of highly-promoted activities and events, both in Vancouver and here at home, which will showcase our rich culture and talented artists on an international stage. Events in the province will be designed to bring the Vancouver 2010 Winter Games, and all they represent, to Newfoundlanders and Labradorians.

Celebrations in Vancounver, BC
In Vancouver, the province’s unique culture will be showcased during the Newfoundland and Labrador Victory Celebration Showcase which precede the medal ceremonies at BC Place. Some of Newfoundland and Labrador’s best talent will be featured during the event. NTV will also be airing the Newfoundland and Labrador Victory Celebration Showcase live from Vancouver in Labrador at 10:30p.m. (AST) and in Newfoundland at 11:00p.m. (NST).

Regional Celebrations
Back in the province, regional celebrations are being planned in St. John’s, Gander, Corner Brook and Happy Valley-Goose Bay, so that Newfoundlanders and Labradorians can participate in the Olympic experience. Celebrations will conclude with a live broadcast of Newfoundland and Labrador’s Victory Celebration Showcase.

Students throughout the province will also share their Olympic spirit by participating in an Olympic-sized Living Healthy Commotion. Living Healthy Commotions are organized each year by teachers and students in schools throughout Newfoundland and Labrador. Next year’s commotions will bring fun and educational activities that celebrate the spirit and ideals of the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Games - friendship, fair play and the pursuit of excellence.
