Atlantic Canada House on Granville Island was THE place to visit during the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games. But the Games aren’t over yet.
Atlantic Canada House is moving to Whistler, B.C. to showcase the region at the 2010 Paralympic Winter Games, culminating in a St. Patrick’s Day celebration – East Coast style!
Atlantic Canada House is taking over Whistler’s Longhorn facility from March 15th to 17th. Situated at the bottom of the Whistler and Blackcomb Mountain gondolas, The Longhorn is central to activities taking place both on the mountain and in the village. During the day, Atlantic Canada House will provide a culinary experience that includes a variety of dishes from the provinces. During the day and into the evenings, there will be entertainment featuring a number of musicians from the East Coast – including Newfoundland and Labrador musical groups The Navigators and The Once.
The province is also showing its support for the 2010 Paralympic Winter Games with various promotional activities taking place at Paralympic venues and throughout the Whistler athletes’ village. A Newfoundland and Labrador banner, signed by residents of the province, will hang in village to wish Canadian athletes well during the Games.
The 2010 Paralympic Winter Games will take place in Whistler and Vancouver from March 12 – 21, just 12 days after the region hosted the Olympic Winter Games. This is the first time the Paralympic Winter Games are being held in Canada. State-of-the-art sporting venues in Whistler and Vancouver will host 1,350 athletes and team officials from 44 countries competing in five sports: alpine skiing, cross-country skiing, ice sledge hockey, wheelchair curling, and biathlon.
