Crown Titles Preparation - Lands

This office is responsible for analyzing legal land surveys and preparing legal documents of title for all dispositions of Crown Land. The program has been in place for over a century and a half and has been the central program for the preparation of all Crown Land titles issued in the Province since the 1830's. Approximately 1600 documents are prepared annually.

Specifically the objectives of the program are:

  • to ensure the rights of the Province are protected in the disposition of Crown land by preparing legal documents that contain an accurate land survey plan and description of the land and proper covenants, clauses, terms, and schedules to reflect the conditions under which dispositions of Crown land have been approved;
  • to provide individuals and businesses acquiring Crown lands with a guaranteed title document acceptable to financial institutions and the legal community for use in land development activities;
  • to ensure the maximum degree of accuracy thereby minimizing or reducing the Crown's liabilities for the guarantee of title;
  • to ensure the provincial land ownership mapping base is updated to the highest standard possible by establishing survey standards for dispositions of Crown land which protect the integrity of the mapping data.
