Introduction
Given that digital-georeferenced base mapping, web mapping services, road network data and georeferenced communication networks are essential elements to emergency response and emergency preparedness, the Surveys and Mapping Division in consultation with EMO drafted a proposal to test an web based approach for an electronic 911 emergency response system. The Federal GeoConnections program has funding to support colaborative sharing of goespatial data to improve public safety and security. The federal and provincial geomatics agencies convened a joint worshop in June 2006 with the following objectives.
- Build awareness of the potential of location-based information for the Public Safety and Security by sharing information on key Federal, Provincial
and municipal initiatives;
- Introduce participants to the GeoConnections national partnership program and opportunities;
- Determine strategies for location-based public safety and security systems in Newfoundland
