Stewardship
"the careful and responsible management of something entrusted into one's care"

The pursuit of outdoor activities has long been an important component of the Newfoundland and Labrador culture. Tradition and heritage have developed in us a strong sense of ownership of our landscape and we are very quick to respond to any perceived threats to our rights to this resource. This sense of ownership, however, brings with it a responsibility. Stewards are individuals or organizations that accept this responsibility and become custodians of their environment. Stewardship refers to the wide-range of actions and activities of individuals, communities, corporations, groups and organizations acting alone or in partnership to ensure the continued health and sustainability of our natural resources.
