| Moose/Caribou/Black Bear Licences
Resident moose and caribou (island only) licences for Newfoundland and Labrador are only available through the Wildlife Division’s Big Game Licence draw. Big game licence applications and a copy of the annual Hunting and Trapping Guide are automatically mailed to all eligible resident hunters in February. A computerized draw for resident licences occurs in May. Afterwards, notifications are mailed to all applicants advising of their success in the draw process. Licences and tags for moose or caribou are mailed directly to successful applicants before the hunting season begins. New big game licence draw applicants must complete the Firearm Safety / Hunter Education Course before Nov. 30 prior to the year of application.
NOTE: The Nov. 30 cutoff also applies to new residents who have completed a recognized hunter education program in another state/province. In Labrador, Resident General Caribou Licences and Resident Special Caribou Licences are available from Government Services Centres or from vendor outlets throughout the region.
On the Island, resident spring and
fall black bear licences are available through an application process.
Spring and fall black bear applications are included in the annual
Hunting and Trapping Guide, which is mailed out directly to all eligible
resident hunters. Spring and fall black bear applications are also
available at all Forestry & Wildlife
Offices. In Labrador, black bear licences are available at all Government
Services Centres or at local vendors (general sporting
goods stores). |
