Lake Chub

Status
Occur in Labrador.

Food
Diet mainly consists of aquatic insects.

Range
Found in all provinces of Canada, but in this province, only in Labrador.

Appearance
This minnow that can grow up to about nine inches long; brown to green above, with a dark stripe along silver-gray sides; slender body with pointed snout.

Breeding Biology
Very few studies have been published on this species. Lake Chub usually undergo a spawning migration from lake to tributary stream in the early spring. Spawning begins to occur when water temperatures are roughly 140C. Chub will spawn amongst rocky substrate, and eggs are not guarder nor placed in a nest. A 2.8-inch female can hold an estimated 500 eggs.
