Sensitive Wildlife Areas

Sensitive wildlife areas are areas considered very important for wildlife for various reasons. For example, we know that caribou typically return to the same area each year to calve. Calving grounds are thus considered sensitive areas as any impacts, human or otherwise, affecting the area may have a potential detrimental effect on the health of the herd. Another example of a sensitive wildlife area is a moose yard. These are areas where moose congregate in winter, especially during times of deep snow, for shelter and food. These areas are considered very important to moose and if affected, may have serious ramifications in terms of the local moose population.
