The Public Service Secretariat was created in May 2005 to assume the human resource functions previously served by the former Treasury Board Secretariat.

The Public Service Secretariat is the agency responsible for strategic human resource management. The Secretariat's has two branches:

  Labour Relations and Classification Branch

  Human Resources Branch

The Public Service Secretariat is headed by Deputy Minister David Gale who reports to the Minister of Finance and President of Treasury Board, Hon. Tom Marshall.

The Treasury Board Committee of Cabinet continues to function and to exercise its responsibilities for human resource management conferred under the Financial Administration Act and the Public Service Collective Bargaining Act. However the human resource management functions previously performed by Treasury Board Secretariat are now the responsibility of the Public Service Secretariat.
