The Collections Act requires that all collection agencies operating in the Province be licensed and adhere to a collections code of practice. Any person who contacts customers door to door, by telephone, or through advertising that requests the buyer to contact the seller by telephone or in-person at a non-business premises for the purpose of trading goods or services is a direct seller. A business or person wishing to charge interest on overdue accounts, extend credit to their customers or loan money to individuals must be registered as a lender. The Trade Practices Division is responsible for regulating charitable gaming in the province. Charitable gaming includes bingo, breakopen tickets, ticket lotteries, games of chance, monte carlo events and sports pools. Security guard means a person who, for hire or reward, guards or patrols for the purpose of protecting persons or property. Burglar alarm system means a system consisting of a device to provide warnings against intrusion, including burglary, robbery, theft or vandalism. Landlord includes an owner, a lessor or person who has authority to enforce the rights given to a landlord. A tenant includes a person who is entitled to use or occupy residential premises under a rental agreement. |
