| The Public Prosecutions
Division conducts prosecutions under the Criminal Code of
Canada, the Youth Criminal Justice Act, and certain provincial
statutes.
Responsible for:

Conducting criminal
trials, arraignments, bail hearings, preliminary inquiries,
sentencings, and fatality inquiries;
|
 |
Representing the Crown in criminal appeals in the Supreme Court of Newfoundland and the Supreme Court of Canada;
|
 |
Providing legal advice to the Attorney General, Deputy Attorney General,
the police and other investigatory agencies in relation to certain criminal matters; and
|
 |
Developing policy for the administration of
criminal law in the Province.

Articling Program
The
Pubic Prosecutions Division and the Civil Division of the Department of
Justice work together to offer a comprehensive Articling Program. The
Program gives articling students the opportunity to develop the essential
knowledge, skills and experience for practicing law. Find out more about the
