Open File NFLD/2377, Part A, (Kerr et
al., 1994) listed
historic geochemical data for numerous granitoid and
related rocks collected and analyzed by the
Newfoundland and Labrador Geological Survey between
1974 and 1990. The data listed in Open File NFLD/2377
used an SPSS® format which required translating
coded values for a variable into meaningful names.
The data was also in an ASCII text format. This new
version has translated these values into names which
are therefore more easily understood by the reader.
The Microsoft Excel ® format of the new version of
the datasets is currently more commonly used and
therefore makes the data more easily accessible by
users.
This web-page version of this open file is a slightly
simplified version of the CD version. The CD version
has an additional sheet which is a compilation of
the other five data sheets.
The Microsoft Excel ® format is currently more
commonly used and therefore makes the data more
useful for researchers wishing to work with the
data.
Typographic errors found in the original Open File
NFLD/2377, Part A, have been corrected; otherwise Part A
is as published in 1994. Part B of Open File NFLD/2377
(Hayes, 1994) is unchanged. It describes the
calculations of precision for the original dataset.
The reader is referred to Open File NFLD/2377, Part A,
which gives a full explanation of the original
dataset and names of variables in printed form.
The variable "Datum" has been added. All
locations were determined using the North American
Datum 1927. This addition will prevent confusion
with locations determined since 1983 which may have
used North American Datum 1983 and now being used on
newer versions of topographic maps.
As noted in Open File NFLD/2377, Part A, the year the
samples were analyzed is indicated. This is
generally the year after the samples were collected.
However, the samples collected in 1974 were
re-analyzed in 1990. These sample numbers have the
prefix 45 or 46, e.g., 4640221.
