Message from the
Premier - Update |
|
|
|
Honourable Danny Williams
Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador
Red Tape Reduction is an
initiative of the Government of Newfoundland
and
Labrador
intended to reduce,
streamline, and/or eliminate unnecessary and
burdensome regulatory and administrative
requirements government-wide.
In August, 2005, the mandate of the Red Tape
Reduction initiative was expanded beyond the
original small-business focus to include all
regulatory requirements with impacts on
individuals, businesses and external
organizations interacting with government. |
There
are more than 515,000 citizens in the
province for whom government provides
programs and services. Many of these
individuals interact with government
regularly in their daily lives. Furthermore,
there are over 17,000 registered businesses
in
Newfoundland
and
Labrador
.
It is imperative that government provide the
most efficient service to everybody whether
they are businesses, volunteer
organizations, professional groups or the
general public.
In
keeping with Government’s commitment to
reduce unnecessary or burdensome regulatory
requirements and administrative processes,
the Government of Newfoundland and
Labrador
announced as part of its 2006 Budget that it
would commence a through review of all fees
imposed for government goods and services.
This Fee Review Initiative will include an
in-depth analysis of all fees, permits,
licenses and registrations required by
government departments.
This new initiative will build on
some of the work already undertaken during
the Red Tape Reduction Initiative and will
provide Government with another opportunity
to streamline Government processes.
I encourage all Newfoundlanders and
Labradorians to provide their comments and
suggestions respecting the fee structure in
this Province to the Fees and Permits Review
Committee at the address provided on our
website.
