Canada Career Week - Make Career Connections - Team Up!

Joan Burke, Minister of Human Resources, Labour and Employment, announced today the beginning of Canada Career Week in Newfoundland and Labrador. From October 31 - November 6 people across the province and the country are encouraged to use provincial and national resources to find out about trends in the labour market, pursue career interests, and plan for future career goals.

"The theme of this year’s Career Week is Make Career Connections - Team Up! The week provides an excellent opportunity for everyone, regardless of age or experience to explore their future," said Minister Burke. "Our job world is rapidly changing and this is the time to take advantage of emerging opportunities within our expanding provincial labour market. The Department of Human Resources, Labour and Employment offers a number of resources to help people research career opportunities and options."

Through the department’s Work Information Network, people across the province have access to the Newfoundland and Labrador Work Information Network (NLWIN) Web site and toll-free telephone service for information and guidance on career planning and employment.

NLWIN covers such areas as labour market trends, job search and recruitment, self employment, current work issues as well as other employment topics. NLWIN can be accessed at www.gov.nl.ca/nlwin.

The Work Information Network Telephone Service offers information and guidance related to career and employment issues as well as details on employment programs and supports. This service can be reached by calling toll-free: 1-800-563-6600 or 1-866-729-4685 (TTY for the hearing impaired).

"These are just two valuable resources available in our province when planning the future direction of your career path," said Minister Burke. "Whether you are deciding which post-secondary program to enter or planning on how to best use your time when you retire, Career Week is a great opportunity to educate yourself on how to shape your future. I invite everyone to empower themselves through learning as we celebrate this special week."
