Update: Transplantation of Erioderma pedicellatum
in Salmonier Nature Park

On June 14, 2000, the described Erioderma transplants were conducted at trailside in a suitable habitat in Salmonier Nature Park. These transplants were performed by lichen researchers Dr. Christoph Scheidegger of the Swiss Federal Institute for Forest, Snow and Landscape Research, accompanied by David Yetman, M.Sc. candidate, Memorial University of Newfoundland. The thalli were attached to both living and dead Balsam Fir trees at locations varying from one to five metres from the pedestrian trail. Transplantation procedure was followed as outlined in the Methodology section. A photographic series of the transplants was performed immediately following transplanting, and has been confirmed at regular intervals to gauge the effectiveness of the various techniques.

A trailside interpretive display involving these transplants is planned for the future.
