Advanced Education and Skills

Smartforce NL opens new window

This program is delivered through a partnership with the Newfoundland and Labrador Association of Technology Industries (NATI) and Bluedrop Performance Learning.

SmartForce NL, an initiative that fosters innovation in skills development for all workers in Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. Through CoursePark, individual employees can build a personal profile and access courses on topics ranging from Microsoft Excel to leadership or project management. Companies throughout the province can create learning networks to manage the training of their employees, helping them to improve human resources knowledge and strengthen global marketing skills. Each Business and Not for Profit in Newfoundland and Labrador can use CoursePark to contribute to profitability, efficiency and employee empowerment.

Community Capacity Building Program

Community Capacity Building (CCB) is a process whereby local partners add value to communities. It is about developing the capacity of communities to respond to their own challenges and opportunities.

The CCB program offers stakeholders with a clear link to economic and business development the opportunity to build capacity either through a training module designed with the help of our CCB partners or an industry planning session.

Getting the Message Out

GMO highlights the stories of people in your own backyard whose ingenuity and determination turned their dreams of entrepreneurship into reality. The GMO program is shared with community organizations, educators, business people, and students throughout the province. Every presentation is customized to reflect regional differences and highlight the many sectors that are exploding with opportunity.

Workplace Skills Enhancement Program

The Workplace Skills Enhancement Program (WSEP) helps small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in strategic sectors acquire and/or up-skill employees to enhance productivity and global competitiveness, and support their retention and expansion strategies.

Emergency Management Courses

Fire and Emergency Services – Newfoundland and Labrador offers several emergency management courses that are available to municipal representatives, first responders and volunteers, who could be involved in emergency planning in your community. All of these courses are offered at no charge throughout Newfoundland and Labrador.

Tourism, Culture and Recreation

National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP)

The National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) is a coach training and certification program for 66 different sports and is offered in both official languages across Canada. NCCP workshops are designed to meet the needs of all types of coaches, from the first-time coach to the head coach of a national team. The NCCP is the recognized national standard for coach training and certification in Canada. As part of the program, all coaches are trained in ethical decision-making and sport safety.

Developing a Proposal – those who’ve taken business writing courses/certificate

Producing a strong, winning proposal requires that you understand the sponsor's goals and objectives so that your proposition will intersect their needs. From there you’ll move to tailoring a response, including conducting the necessary research. You’ll finish by packaging and presenting a document that will be both compelling and true to purpose.

Robert’s Rules of Order – those who’ve done meeting minutes

Learn how to manage a meeting using Robert’s Rules of Order. If you sit on a board or committee and are required to facilitate and support shared decision making while managing meetings that run from straightforward to complex, this class will provide you with the tools to develop your meeting management skills. Topics include: underlying principles of parliamentary procedure, using the rules sensibly and intelligently, majority, tie votes, abstentions, chair’s debating and voting rights, open and closed meetings, quorum, handling main motions and amendments, revisiting previous decisions, motions to refer, postpone, table, rules of debate, and closing debate.
