Mandate
The mandate of the Voluntary and Non-Profit Secretariat is to enhance and
support the contribution of the voluntary, non-profit sector to the well being
of all our communities by:
- Strengthening the relationship and improving collaboration between the
provincial government and the voluntary and non-profit sector
- Enhancing the ability of the voluntary and non-profit sector to meet
changing community needs
- Promoting volunteerism and social enterprise
- Facilitating the development of provincial government programs and
policies which support the voluntary and non-profit sector
- Fostering innovative and creative collaborative approaches

Three Lines of Business:
- Provision of policy advice and expertise within government on the issues
and needs in the voluntary, community-based sector
- Promotion and celebration of volunteers and the value of volunteerism
- Enhancement of the capacity in the voluntary, community-based sector
to meet changing community needs.

Staff
The Voluntary and Non-Profit Secretariat’s provincial office is situated in St. John’s and coordinated by a core staff component of six with additional support provided by project staff throughout the year.
