Mandate

The mandate of the Voluntary and Non-Profit Secretariat is to enhance and support the contribution of the voluntary, non-profit sector to the well being of all our communities by:

  • Strengthening the relationship and improving collaboration between the provincial government and the voluntary and non-profit sector
  • Enhancing the ability of the voluntary and non-profit sector to meet changing community needs
  • Promoting volunteerism and social enterprise
  • Facilitating the development of provincial government programs and policies which support the voluntary and non-profit sector
  • Fostering innovative and creative collaborative approaches

Three Lines of Business:

  1. Provision of policy advice and expertise within government on the issues and needs in the voluntary, community-based sector
  2. Promotion and celebration of volunteers and the value of volunteerism
  3. Enhancement of the capacity in the voluntary, community-based sector to meet changing community needs.

Staff

The Voluntary and Non-Profit Secretariat’s provincial office is situated in St. John’s and coordinated by a core staff component of six with additional support provided by project staff throughout the year.
