Registered apprentices complete and submit the Statement of Eligibility to Write Certification Examination contained in the logbook to the Apprenticeship Program Officer for verification. Upon approval and receipt of payment for the prescribed fee(s), the Apprenticeship Program Officer will notify the apprentice of the examination schedule.
Trade qualifiers submit an application for certification, Record of Work Experiences For Trade Qualifier or Pre-Apprenticeship Credits and required documentation to the Apprenticeship Program Officer. Following an assessment and upon receipt of payment for the prescribed fee(s), the applicant will be advised of eligibility to write a certification examination.
Individuals who successfully complete the certification examination(s) will be granted a Certificate of Qualification.
Registered apprentices who successfully complete the certification examination(s) will be granted a Certificate of Apprenticeship.
At the time of issuance, journey persons are notified of the requirements for certification renewal.
Expired certificates are renewed upon application to the Director of theApprenticeship and Trades Certification Division and payment of the prescribed fee(s).
If the Certificate of Qualification has been lost, the journey person may make application for a new certificate. The application must be supplemented by a statutory declaration and the prescribed fee(s).
Applicants seeking to exchange an interprovincial certificate obtained from another jurisdiction within Canada must provide evidence of this certification.
Applicants seeking to exchange a provincial certificate in an interprovincial occupation obtained from another jurisdiction within Canada, other than those covered in a bilateral agreement between this Province and another, must provide evidence of equivalence of the certification to the satisfaction of the Board and must write the interprovincial (theory) examination.
Applicants seeking to exchange a provincial certificate in either a provincial or interprovincial occupation obtained from an Atlantic province will be granted equivalent certificates without examinations.
The trades that are listed under the Quebec/Newfoundland and Labrador Mobility Agreement are recognized for equivalency and, therefore, provincial exchange certificates may be issued. When evidence provided is verified and approved by the Apprenticeship and Trades Certification Division, an equivalent certificate is issued.
Applicants seeking transfer of their certification from another country must provide evidence of equivalence and verification of the required work experience to the satisfaction of the Provincial Apprenticeship and Certification Board and successfully complete the interprovincial or provincial examination.
Where evidence supports a finding of fraud by the applicant regarding the issuing of a certificate, the Board may revoke the certificate.
