Provincial Government Programs

The Department of Finance is responsible for matters relating to budgeting and fiscal policy, the debt management of the province, the collection and payment of employees pensions and benefits, insurance services, the administration of taxation statutes, meeting the broad macroeconomic and statistical requirements of government, and the Office of the Comptroller General.

Federal Programs and Services

  • The National Seniors Council advises the Government of Canada on matters related to the health, well-being and quality of life of seniors.
  • New Horizons for Seniors Program, through Employment and Social Development Canada,  provides funding to non-profit and other organizations, to help ensure that seniors can benefit from, and contribute to, the quality of life in their communities, through active living and participation in social activities.
  • Canada Pension Plan Retirement Pension – a monthly, taxable benefit that replaces part of your income when you retire.
  • Old Age Security Pension – a monthly payment you can get if you are 65 or older. You may also qualify for the Guaranteed Income Supplement if your income is below a certain level.
