Youth Corrections Program

The Youth Corrections Program is mandated to provide services to youth who come into conflict with the law between their 12th and 18th birthdays. The legislative authority for the program comes from the Youth Criminal Justice Act (Canada) and the Young Person’s Offences Act (Newfoundland and Labrador), in concert with other federal and provincial legislation. The responsibility for the delivery of young offender services rests with local CSSD offices, with the exception of Secure Custody and Remand Services, which are operated by the provincial Department of Justice.
