Name Approval

General

A co-operative shall have the word “co-operative” or “coopérative” as part of its name. A co-operative may set out its name in its articles in an English form, a French form or in a combined English and French form.

Identical Names

A co-operative may not have a name that is identical to the name of a corporation carrying on business in this province.

Similar Names

A co-operative may not have a name that so nearly resembles the name of a corporation or another organization of persons that, in the opinion of the Registrar, the use of that name would or might be deceiving or misleading to persons dealing with the co-operative, or another corporation or organization of persons.

Public Policy

If the name is objectionable on the grounds of public policy, the Registrar does have the authority to disallow its use.
