Busing

Welcome to the Newfoundland and Labrador School Busing website! Please click one of the links above to be directed to a listing of all the relevant information for your school busing needs.

Please be advised that COVID-19 school plans do affect school transportation.

At this time the recommendation from the Chief Medical Officer is for  two (2) students per seat and all students to wear face masks while travelling on the school bus.  To determine if your school transportation is impacted, please inquire with your school.

School districts are asking that if a family does have a seat on the bus but do not plan to avail, or have the means to transport their children themselves, to opt out of school transportation during COVID-19 plans to allow the seat to be used by a family that would be more inconvenienced.

Regular hand washing or use of hand sanitizer is advised.  For school transportation it is advisable for children to have a personal bottle of hand sanitizer with them as school bus safety standards limit the ability to place large hand sanitizer dispensers on the school bus.

Busing is also available for students with special needs. Students are expected to attend their neighbourhood school unless there are circumstances that prevent them, such as the school is not accessible for the individual student’s needs. The school can apply to the department for approval for busing when circumstances warrant. Approval is based on the Alternate Transportation Policy and a review of the Application Package supported by appropriate documentation.

Under certain circumstances, busing can be made available to children whose parent(s)/guardian(s) has a physical disability which prevents them from accompanying their child (K-6) to school. The school can apply to the department for approval for busing when circumstances warrant. Approval is based on the Alternate Transportation Policy and a review of the Application Package supported by appropriate documentation.
