Arctic Council Advisory Committee

Canada is a member of the Arctic Council, which is the leading intergovernmental forum promoting cooperation, coordination and interaction among the eight Arctic States, Arctic Indigenous peoples, organizations and observer countries  on common Arctic issues.

Labrador Affairs represents the Province on the Arctic Council Advisory Committee (ACAC). The ACAC is a forum for engagement of federal, territorial, provincial and Indigenous partners on the development and implementation of Canada’s international Arctic policy, including Arctic Council-related matters. The Committee also serves as the main governance mechanism for overseeing implementation of the international dimension of the Arctic and Northern Policy Framework.

The objectives of the ACAC are:

  1. Ensure regular dialogue between federal, territorial and provincial governments and Canadian Permanent Participant organizations, with a view to identifying areas of common interest and mutually supportive action.
  2. Engage territorial, provincial and Permanent Participant partners on the development and implementation of Canada’s international Arctic policy, including positions taken at the Arctic Council and other international forums.
  3. Promote greater awareness of Arctic Council and other relevant international activities among Committee members and their respective institutions.
  4. Review progress in implementing the international dimension of the Arctic and Northern Policy Framework.
