Chinchilla

Chinchillas are native to South America until the early 20th Century, when mass trapping almost lead to extinction. Today worldwide there are over one million chinchillas. The chinchilla industry in Newfoundland and Labrador is very small with only a few small chinchilla producers.

Provincially there is the opportunity for chinchilla farming with the demand increasing in the fashion industry causing pelt prices to increase with the demand.
