Some experiences change the way you see the world, and my moose hunting trip was definitely one of them. It was a trip that gave me memories I’ll carry for the rest of my life. I still remember the steady hum of the float plane racing across the water as we lifted off. The landscape stretched out as far as I could see. From the moment I boarded the float plane to the day I packed my bag to go home, every part of the trip felt like a new adventure.
The journey to camp alone made the experience unforgettable. Flying in on a float plane was something I had never done before, and seeing the land stretch out below me made it clear just how off the grid our destination really was. When we landed, it felt like we had entered a completely different world, quiet, rugged, and untouched. The camp became my home for the next week, and it didn’t take long for it to feel comfortable.
Each day brought something new. I went out with a guide who knew the land very well, and learning from someone with that level of experience was eye opening. The highlight of the trip was shooting my first moose, a moment I’ll never forget. It wasn’t just about the hunt itself, but about the patience, effort, and respect for nature that came with it. That experience taught me responsibility and appreciation in a way no classroom ever could.
One of the most unique parts of the trip was the people. Everyone at camp was welcoming and friendly. I met people from New York and other places far from home, and it was interesting to spend a full week with people who had completely different backgrounds and personalities. Despite our differences, we all shared a love for the outdoors, and that connection brought us together.
The food at camp also played a bigger role than I expected. After long days outside, sitting down to a well-cooked meal was something everyone looked forward to. Every meal was really good, and it became a time when stories were shared and laughter filled the room. Those moments around the table helped turn a group of strangers into friends.
By the end of the week, I realized I didn’t want to leave. The routine of camp life, the people, and the constant sense of adventure made it hard to return to normal life. The trip gave me confidence, independence, and a new appreciation for experiences that challenge you.
Looking back, this moose hunting trip was more than just a week away. It was an opportunity to grow and meet new people, and it’s an experience I’ll always be grateful for and one I’ll never forget.
