The Way Forward on Immigration in Newfoundland and Labrador is a five-year action plan for increasing immigration in Newfoundland and Labrador. As a province-wide plan, it outlines the actions the province’s population will take collectively to attract and retain immigrants who have the skills needed to build and contribute to the Newfoundland and Labrador economy, how the residents will support and welcome them to urban, rural and remote communities and how Government and its partners will encourage Newfoundlanders and Labradorians living abroad to return to their home province.
In June 2008, the Office of Immigration and Multiculturalism (OIM) launched the policy on Multiculturalism for the province of Newfoundland and Labrador. The policy is designed to guide government programs and services. Download a copy of Newfoundland and Labrador’s Multiculturalism Policy.
This policy articulated for the government of Newfoundland and Labrador the need to view cultural diversity as our strength, to promote multiculturalism and cross-cultural understanding where the cultural diversity of all people is valued, supported and enhanced to collectively build a prosperous Province.
2018 Diversity Calendar
Recognizing cultural events and holidays supports increased awareness of diversity in our province and can help all our residents feel welcome in communities throughout the province.
The Office of Immigration and Multiculturalism has developed a diversity calendar to promote various cultural holidays and events, in response to input from communities, libraries, employers, schools, and other stakeholders interested in organizing multicultural activities.
The diversity calendar will be issued annually, and will feature cultural holidays and events celebrated by various cultural groups living in Newfoundland and Labrador. If you would like to suggest a holiday for inclusion in future editions of the calendar, please e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
