St. John’s, Newfoundland, May, 2018

This Open File release consists of a 1:50 000-scale geological map (NTS 14D/16; Kingurutik Lake) covering the region between Iglusuataliksuak Lake and inner Tikkoatokak Bay, Labrador, as well as a set of ancillary notes addressing aspects of map compilation, lithological features and nomenclature. The maps incorporate field data collected in the region by the Geological Survey of Newfoundland and Labrador between 2002 and 2004, supplemented by information gleaned from published and unpublished sources referenced in the accompanying notes. The area is dominated by plutonic rocks (mostly of anorthositic and granitic composition) of the Mesoproterozoic Nain Plutonic Suite, flanked by Archean and Paleoproterozoic granulite-facies metamorphic rocks of diverse character (enderbitic gneiss, foliated leucotroctolite, layered gabbronorite, cordierite-bearing paragneiss). Several new U-Pb ages are reported, and the locations of the most prominent base-metal occurrences are pin-pointed.
