Geophysical Series, Western Newfoundland Offshore Aeromagnetic Survey; Scale 1:100 000

R. Dumont and A. Jones (Geological Survey of Canada)

A joint Open File release by the Geological Survey Division (Newfoundland and Labrador Department of Natural Resources) and the Geological Survey of Canada (Natural Resources Canada).

This release comprises 32, 1:100 000-scale aeromagnetic maps for 16 NTS map areas, covering a portion of offshore western Newfoundland and portions of the adjacent onshore area. Results are presented as full-coloured maps in pdf format, of (i) Residual Total Magnetic Field and (ii) Second Vertical Derivative of the Magnetic Field, for each NTS map area.

The data for this survey were acquired using fixed-wing aircraft, flying at 80 m nominal clearance, along flight paths oriented northwest-southeast and spaced at 200 to 400 m. Survey control lines were flown oriented in the orthogonal direction and spaced at 1500 m.

The survey was carried out between June and October 2012 under the Offshore Geoscience Data Program (OGDP) an Energy Plan initiative of the Department of Natural Resources, Government of Newfoundland and Labrador. Project managment and publication of these open file maps were completed by the Geological Survey of Canada, Earth Science Sector, Natural Resources Canada, and fulfills part of a joint geoscience initiative with Nalcor Energy, Newfoundland and Labrador Department of Natural Resources, and the Geological Survey of Canada.
