For the school year 1995/96, there were 110,456 students in 472 publicly-funded schools. Of these, 318 schools (two-thirds) are located in rural communities and the remaining one third, in urban areas. Figure 2 provides a distribution of schools by overall school size. As can be seen from the chart, over one quarter of these schools have fewer than 100 students in total. In fact, 62 schools in the Province have fewer than 50 students.
