At an event today in Happy Valley-Goose Bay, the Honourable Dwight Ball,
Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, announced the Provincial Government is
providing $11.7 million toward the construction of the Labrador Wellness Centre.
The total cost for the project is estimated at $25.5 million with the Government
of Canada contributing $7.5 million and the Town of Happy Valley-Goose Bay
funding the remainder.
Premier Ball was joined at today’s announcement by the Honourable Perry
Trimper, MHA for Lake Melville; the Honourable Lisa Dempster, Minister of
Children, Seniors and Social Development and MHA for Cartwright – L’Anse au
Clair; Yvonne Jones, MP for Labrador; and Wally Andersen, Mayor, and Bert
Pomeroy, Deputy Mayor, of Happy Valley-Goose Bay.
With the Labrador Wellness Centre, residents of the region will benefit from
a modern, accessible facility that will allow them to participate in a range of
community and recreational programming. Once complete, the Labrador Wellness
Centre will provide an active, social gathering place for the community for
generations to come.
As outlined in The Way Forward, the Provincial Government is committed to
improving the health outcomes of the people of the province.
