The Honourable Derrick Bragg, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Environment, has announced the following events relative to Part 10 Environmental Assessment of the Environmental Protection Act.

Petit Forte Distribution Line                                                                   (Reg. 2053)
Proponent: Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro

The proponent proposes to install utility poles and anchors in the Petit Forte Distribution Line easement located between the communities of Brookside and Petit Forte on the east side of the Burin Peninsula in Placentia Bay. This is to facilitate the installation of a fibre optic line. The poles and anchors will be installed within 200 metres of three scheduled salmon rivers including the Bay de L’Eau River, Cape Roger Brook and Non Such Brook.

The undertaking was registered on October 16, 2019; the deadline for public comments is November 21, 2019; and the minister’s decision is due by November 30, 2019.

Valentine Gold Project                                                                             (Reg. 2015)
Proponent: Marathon Gold Corporation

The proposed Valentine Gold Project is undergoing a provincial environmental assessment, and an environmental impact statement (EIS) is required. The environmental assessment committee has prepared draft EIS guidelines that identify the information that must be included in the EIS. The public is invited to review these guidelines and provide written comments by November 26, 2019. Comments received will be reviewed and considered before the EIS guidelines are finalized and issued to the proponent.
