December 22, 2020

Today, the Honourable Brian Warr, Minister of Children, Seniors and Social Development, is pleased to announce that the Seniors’ Social Inclusion Initiative has had a positive uptake to date.

Currently, close to $90,000 in grant funding has been provided to 50+ clubs and seniors’ organizations throughout the province. Through this application-based program, seniors’ groups may apply for funding of up to $2,000 each to organize and promote activities and programs that support social inclusion, healthy aging, mental wellness, and overall well-being.

The grant guidelines include details on how to conduct activities safely and in compliance with public health guidance due to COVID-19. From delivering box lunches and treat baskets, to organizing socially distance hiking and bowling, to sending flowers and greeting cards, seniors’ groups have been finding creative ways to help keep seniors connected in spite of challenges related to COVID-19.

The Seniors’ Social Inclusion Initiative will remain open until the budget allocation is expended. The application for grant funding for eligible 50+ clubs and other seniors’ organizations throughout Newfoundland and Labrador can be found online or by calling toll-free 1-888-494-2266.
