Call for Applications for Cost-Shared Infrastructure Programs

The Honourable Derek Bennett, Minister of Environment, Climate Change and Municipalities, today announced that the Department is inviting applications for projects under the 2021-22 Municipal Capital Works program and the Investing in Canada Plan infrastructure program.

This is the annual call for applications and details on any COVID-19 related funding programs will be announced separately.

Municipalities, local service districts, engineering consultants, regional service boards and Inuit community governments, non-profit organizations and other eligible recipients can submit applications until November 13, 2020. Project approvals are anticipated to be determined by spring 2021 Links to information on the application process and guidelines can be found in the Learn More section below.

In 2020, there were 150 joint projects approved under the Investing in Canada Plan valued at over $180 million, and 30 projects approved for the Municipal Capital Works program with an investment of over $9 million. Approved projects for both programs included upgrading wastewater treatment; improving access to drinking water; municipal water and sewer system upgrades; and fire hall upgrades.

The Investing in Canada Plan federal-provincial is a 10-year $1.1 billion infrastructure program. The Municipal Capital Works program allocates approximately $10 million each year towards municipal infrastructure projects.
