Today, the Honourable Derek Bennett, Minister of Environment, Climate Change and Municipalities, announced $25,000 in funding for the Salvation Army – Newfoundland and Labrador Division through the Special Assistance Grant Program. This support will help the organization’s efforts to construct a garage for its emergency disaster services vehicle which is used by first responders and serves food to front line workers whenever there is an emergency.

The vehicle is based in Grand Falls-Windsor and serves the central region from Glovertown to Baie Verte.

This summer, the Salvation Army provided over 3,000 meals to transport truck drivers in Channel – Port aux Basques as they delivered essential goods to Newfoundland and Labrador during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Quotes
“The work of the Salvation Army in their role as first responders in Newfoundland and Labrador over the years is to be commended. They are there to assist when a disaster occurs or when a family is in need. This funding will help the organization in their efforts to house their emergency disaster services vehicle as they provide meals to those working on the front lines when an emergency happens.”
