Deadline Approaching to Return Completed Special Ballots

The deadline for returning completed Special Ballots for the Humber – Gros Morne by-election is approaching.

Voters must return completed Special Ballots by 4:00 p.m. today (October 1) to either:

  • the Special Ballot Office in Deer Lake (Computer & Communications Ltd., 3 Spruce Street; or,
  • the District Returning Office in Parsons Pond (Central Development Building, 2 Route 430).

Those who are unable to return their ballots to the locations in the Humber – Gros Morne district have the option to arrange to return their ballot to Elections NL’s Special Ballot headquarters (39 Hallett Crescent, St. John’s). The cut-off for ballot receipt in St. John’s is 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 3. Ballots can be deposited in the ‘after hours’ mail slot.

Completed ballots must be received at Elections NL headquarters by the deadline in order to count the Special Ballots before by-election day, as required by the Elections Act, 1991.

In total, 352 Special Ballot applications were approved in the Humber – Gros Morne by-election and 81 of those were for mail-in voting.

Comparatively, during the 2019 General Election, there were 321 approved Special Ballot applications for the same district and seven of those were for mail-in voting.
