  • Executive Council

February 5, 2020

Today, the Honourable Carol Anne Haley, Minister for the Status of Women, was joined by representatives of violence prevention organizations for the signing of a proclamation acknowledging February as Violence Prevention Month in Newfoundland and Labrador.

Through the Violence Prevention Initiative, government and community partners are working to reduce the many types of violence in our province, including physical assault, sexual, emotional, psychological, spiritual and cultural violence, verbal and financial abuse, and neglect.

Violence is a systemic problem that requires long-term solutions. Only by everyone working together is it possible to develop and sustain true change in our society.

The Provincial Government welcomes and looks forward to new community partnerships and collaborations to help prevent violence against residents of Newfoundland and Labrador. Together, we have the ability to foster great change.

Quote
“I thank all those who work tirelessly to increase the safety of our communities. Violence in our society is never acceptable. By working together, we will have a positive impact on preventing violence in Newfoundland and Labrador.”
