The Government of Newfoundland and Labrador has reached a collective agreement with the Canadian Merchant Service Guild. Ratification of the agreement concluded on Wednesday, October 14.

Provincial Government and the Canadian Merchant Service Guild, which represents approximately 31 Ferry Captains in Newfoundland and Labrador, have ratified an agreement that includes a wage increase of five per cent, as well as the elimination of severance and changes to post-employment benefits, which is similar to what other bargaining groups received over the same period of time.

The agreement covers the period of 2012 to 2020 with wage increases retroactivity effective July 1, 2019.

This deal supports government’s balanced approach to fiscal management, while maintaining services that create a more affordable public service.
