Seafood Processors of Newfoundland and Labrador has retained PF Collins, Atlantis Aviation and Pisces Consulting to study the feasibility of live holding, cold storage and air shipment of fish and seafood from Newfoundland and Labrador to international markets.

A working group comprised of the Association of Seafood Producers, Seafood Processors of Newfoundland and Labrador, Newfoundland Aquaculture Industry Association, and officials from the Department of Fisheries, Forestry and Agriculture are overseeing the delivery of the feasibility study.

PF Collins and Atlantis Aviation both offer decades of experience in transport strategies and air cargo logistics while Pisces Consulting has worked extensively with seafood producers in Atlantic Canada on many market, technology and processing reviews and modernization studies.

Funding of $50,000 was provided by the Department of Fisheries, Forestry and Agriculture to undertake the study. A final report is expected to be delivered to the department by the end of 2020.

This initiative is part of a plan by the Provincial Government to support renewable resource-based businesses and employment in rural communities during the COVID-19 global pandemic through investments in the forestry, agriculture, fisheries and aquaculture sectors.
