Today (Wednesday, September 30), Newfoundland and Labrador has one new confirmed case of COVID-19.
The one new confirmed case is a female in the Labrador-Grenfell Health region between 20-39 years of age.
The new case is travel-related. The individual travelled to the province from Saskatchewan.
The individual, who is not a resident of Newfoundland and Labrador, came to the province after being granted a travel exemption as an essential health care worker in Happy Valley-Goose Bay.
The Department of Health and Community Services is asking people who travelled on Air Canada Flights 7950 and 7484 departing Regina and Toronto for Deer Lake on Monday, September 21 to call 811 to arrange for COVID-19 testing.
People who stayed at the Holiday Inn Express in Deer Lake on Monday, September 21 are also asked to call 811 to arrange for COVID-19 testing.
The department is asking people who travelled on PAL Airlines Flight 901 departing Deer Lake to Happy Valley-Goose Bay on Tuesday, September 22 to call 811 to arrange for COVID-19 testing.
People are also asked to call 811 to arrange for testing if they visited:
- Terrington Co-op in Happy Valley-Goose Bay on Tuesday, September 22 between 4:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.;
- Bargain Shop in Happy Valley-Goose Bay on Wednesday, September 23 between 3:30 p.m. and 4:00 p.m.
This is being recommended by Public Health out of an abundance of caution.
Contact tracing by Public Health officials is underway. Anyone considered a close contact will be advised to quarantine.
Two hundred and sixty-nine people have recovered from the virus.
The province has two active cases of COVID-19.
To date, 42,007 people have been tested.
In Alert Level 2, individuals should continue to practice good infection prevention and control practices.
Daily preventative actions can help to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
These actions include:
- Stay informed, be prepared, and follow public health advice;
- Wash your hands frequently with warm water and soap for at least 20 seconds;
- Use an alcohol based hand sanitizer in the absence of soap and water;
- Do not touch your face;
- Practice proper cough and sneeze etiquette;
- Wear a non-medical mask in public indoor spaces;
- Maintain physical distancing;
- Increase cleanliness and ventilation of public spaces and worksites; and,
- Stay home if you are sick and avoid contact with others.
