The Honourable John Haggie, Minister of Health and Community Services is congratulating Niki Legge, the department’s Director of Mental Health and Addictions, and the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador, on receiving the International eMental Health Innovation Leadership Award from the eMental Health International Collaborative (eMHIC).

The award is presented annually for leadership in the global eMental Health landscape, embodying innovation, implementation and forward-thinking.

Of the many mental health and addictions initiatives championed in this province, Newfoundland and Labrador and Ms. Legge, were recognized for Bridge the gapp (BTG), the go-to online resource for mental health and substance use information and support. Since 2011, government has built a suite of e-mental health tools and services to support children, youth and adults across the continuum of care, within a provincial stepped-care model. BTG is a trusted source for resources and services which are now being customized for other provinces and territories throughout Canada.

Based in Auckland, New Zealand, the eMHIC is a place where leaders and experts in eMental health and addictions come together to leverage global innovation across digitally-enabled mental health promotion, prevention and treatment, while sharing knowledge and experience regarding the implementation of initiatives in their respective countries.

Quotes
“It is an honour for Ms. Legge and the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador to be recognized by the e-Mental Health International Collaborative. Our success story is largely the result of a commitment to co-design with lived experience, as well as the establishment of a Provincial Recovery Council.”
Honourable John Haggie
Minister of Health and Community Services

“The government our recipient works for also deserves acknowledgement and recognition for paving the way with their strategic foresight and very progressive stance on eMental health. Without this strong foundation and her forward thinking leadership, eMental Health would not have reached the level of importance and practical implementation that it has.”
Anil Thapliyal
Executive Director, eMental Health International Collaborative
