Support Helps Small Businesses Focus on Marketing Efforts

Today, the Honourable Andrew Parsons, Minister of Industry, Energy and Technology, announced $216,000 in provincial support for eight businesses in Newfoundland and Labrador so they can focus on promoting their products to local markets and beyond.

These projects are a sample of the support being provided to assist our small businesses with marketing and product promotion so they can continue to strengthen and diversify the economy.

Investments announced today include:

  • $97,125 for the Ocean View Motel in St. Lawrence for marketing initiatives such as branding, website and online booking development, digital marketing and partnership development;
  • $43,064 for Iron Rock Brewing, Labrador’s first craft brewery, to assist with branding, label development, digital photography and other online marketing sales initiatives;
  • $25,360 for Hillside Fine Craft in Tors Cove, which creates one-of-a-kind modern jewelry using copper, enamel and sterling silver. This support will help Hillside Fine Craft carry out marketing activities including the development of an e-commerce website, marketing materials, signage and a social media campaign;
  • $15,517 for AirCo SheetMetal Inc. in Green’s Harbour, which specializes in producing and installing sheet metal components including heating, ventilation and air conditioning duct systems. This funding will be used for website development, promotional display boards, sample products, and other promotional materials;
  • $14,625 for Barrett and Kin Construction of Harbour Main for an interactive website and social media campaign targeted to clients interested in small scale renewable energy solutions;
  • $9,000 for Fundamental Inc, a clean technology company in Harbour Main offering solutions for energy efficiency, carbon emission reductions, climate change adaptation and renewable energy generation. This support will assist them in video development to showcase their small scale renewable energy installations;
  • $6,507 for Atelier West Studios of Deer Lake, an art and fine craft production studio specializing in printmaking techniques. This support will assist them to develop an e-commerce website and digital marketing campaign, as well as work with a production company to develop the skills to offer online workshops; and
  • $4,800 for Karlande Designs, a handcrafted jewelry business operated in Clarenville. This funding will support marketing initiatives including brand development, website enhancements and social media presence to enhance digital marketing efforts.

Small to medium size businesses throughout Newfoundland and Labrador are significant to the growth of the provincial economy. Budget 2020 includes almost $17 million to support research and development, commercialization and business development.
