The Honourable Bernard Davis, Minister of Tourism, Culture, Arts and Recreation, recently visited White Hills Ski Resort in Clarenville for a tour of the facility and to speak with staff about the upcoming ski season.

White Hills, which is run by Alpine Development Alliance Corporation, offers a variety of winter outdoor recreation activities, including alpine skiing, snowboarding, snowshoeing, and Nordic skiing, through the Clarenville Nordic Ski Club. Since 2019, the Provincial Government has provided over $120,000 to the corporation, including:

  • More than $5,400 under the Community Healthy Living Fund, to purchase cross country skis and snowshoes and for accessibility upgrades to the White Hills Ski Lodge;
  • Almost $4,000 from Industry, Energy and Technology to complete a feasibility assessment of the mountain bike park opportunities at White Hills Ski Resort.

In addition, almost $3,000 was approved through the Community Healthy Living Fund to purchase an automated external defibrillator (AED) for the Clarenville Nordic Ski Club.

Only a two-hour drive from St. John’s, White Hills offers a wide range of fun winter, outdoor recreation. It was a pleasure to chat with Richard Power and the staff and learn about the variety of programs and activities being planned for this year’s upcoming season. “The White Hills Ski Resort is an important economic generator for the Town of Clarenville and surrounding area. These investments from our government are integral to the operation of White Hills and support improvements and upgrades to equipment needed to maintain the ski hill such as groomer maintenance, chair lift repairs, ski equipment and general maintenance.”
Honourable Andrew Parsons
Minister of Industry, Energy and Technology

“I was very pleased to host Minister Davis and show him the progress we were able to make in the 2020 season with the funding we received. With this support, we were able to build a wind fence, make necessary repairs to our groomer, our snowmaking pump/equipment and other necessary repairs. We believe that White Hills contributes to the economic growth in Clarenville and promotes a healthy and wholesome winter environment. We appreciate the support of this grant and continue to work hard with the Town of Clarenville, our management team and our volunteer community to get the hill ready for 2021 season and hope White Hills will be the winter destination of choice for the region.”
