Provincial Government Announces Appointments to the Newfoundland and Labrador Arts Council

The Honourable Bernard Davis, Minister of Tourism, Culture, Arts and Recreation, today announced two new board appointments to the Newfoundland and Labrador Arts Council (ArtsNL).

Michelle Keep and Gina Power have each been appointed for three-year terms. Biographical information for these new board members is available in the backgrounder below.

ArtsNL is a Crown corporation created under the Arts Council Act to foster and promote the production of works in the arts. Board members are appointed on the basis of sectoral representation of the arts community, with artistic disciplines represented by music, theatre, visual arts, writing, dance and film. In addition, as per the Act, the Board has two community representatives with an interest in the arts. The two individuals appointed will fill the writing representative (Michelle Keep) and the community representative (Gina Power).

These appointments were made through the merit-based process established by the Independent Appointments Commission Act.

Biographies for Appointees to the ArtsNL Board of Directors

Michelle Keep
Michell Keep is the owner of Pathforgers Publishers where she is a full time author and publisher. Residing in St. John’s, Ms. Keep is an active part of her community being involved with various organizations such as the St. John’s Status of Women Council and Canadian Freelance Union.

Gina Power
Gina Power has been involved in various roles throughout the television, film and media industry. She has been involved with many organizations such as the Walt Disney Company of Canada for 25+ years, Canadian Screen Awards, Make a Wish Foundation, and many others. Ms. Power is also the recipient of the President Obama Volunteer Service Award.
