Two Appointments Made to the Heritage Foundation of Newfoundland and Labrador

The Honourable Bernard Davis, Minister of Tourism, Culture, Arts and Recreation, today announced two new board appointments to the Heritage Foundation of Newfoundland and Labrador.

Raymond Cusson and Michele Davies have each been appointed for three-year terms effective immediately. Biographical information is available in the backgrounder below.

The Heritage Foundation of Newfoundland and Labrador is an agency created under the Historic Resources Act. The objects of the foundation are: to stimulate an understanding of and an appreciation for the architectural heritage of the province; to support and contribute to the preservation, maintenance and restoration of buildings and other structures of architectural or historical significance in the province; and to contribute to the increase and diffusion of knowledge about the architectural heritage of the province.

Appointments made to agencies, boards and commissions are done through a merit-based process established by the Independent Appointments Commission Act.

Biographies for Appointees to the Heritage Foundation of Newfoundland and Labrador

Raymond Cusson
Raymond Cusson previously served with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police covering a variety of roles such as personal security of Prime Minister Pierre-Elliott Trudeau and other dignitaries. Mr. Cusson is also the co-founder of the First Nations Chiefs of Police Association. Mr. Cusson has been involved in the community for many years serving on boards such as Gros Morne Co-operating Association and the Red Ochre Regional Development Board.

Michelle Davies
Michele Davies, a resident of Nain, is an archaeologist with the Nunatsiavut Government. She studied archaeology at both Memorial University and the University of Toronto. Ms. Davies is an active member of her community, serving as a board member for the Nain Food Bank as well as a volunteer firefighter for the Nain Fire Department.
