Public Advisory: Motorists Advised to Drive Cautiously Due to Inclement Weather

  • Transportation and Infrastructure

December 2, 2020

Motorists in central Labrador and the south coast of Newfoundland are advised to reduce their speeds and drive cautiously today and tomorrow (Wednesday and Thursday, December 2 and 3).

Environment Canada forecasts are calling for periods of heavy rainfall in central Labrador – between 25 mm to 45 mm – today into tomorrow. Motorists are advised to drive to conditions.

Motorists are also advised to drive cautiously on the Burin Peninsula and Connaigre Peninsulas as forecasts are also calling for between 40 mm and 55 mm of rain in these regions.

The Department of Transportation and Infrastructure reminds motorists of the potential for water buildup on highways and to expect some travel delays.

Motorists should monitor local weather advisories and check nl511.ca or the NL 511 smartphone app for information on provincial highway driving conditions before travelling.
