  • Transportation and Works

August 10, 2020

Work to repair bridges on the Trans-Canada Highway, east of St. John’s, and on Pitts Memorial Drive is beginning this week.

The highways will be reduced to one lane near the bridges due to heavy equipment and crews working in the area. Motorists are advised to anticipate some traffic delays.

Work on Pitts Memorial Highway will take place on two bridges, one each in the eastbound and westbound lanes, between the highway’s interchange with the Robert E. Howlett Highway and the overpass above Bay Bulls Road.

Work on the Trans-Canada Highway will take place on one bridge in the eastbound lanes approximately four kilometres east of the Foxtrap Access Road.

Work on all three bridges includes repairs to concrete and expansion joints and paving. The department anticipates this project being completed by early September.

Details on all construction on provincial highways where motorists can expect traffic delays is available at nl511.ca and the 511 smartphone app.
