During the Newfoundland and Labrador Foster Families Annual General Meeting yesterday evening (Monday, June 7), the Honourable John G. Abbott, Minister of Children, Seniors and Social Development, announced that the Waypoints Supporting Foster Parents Program has been expanded.

Currently, the Waypoints Supporting Foster Parents Program offers training and support to foster parents in the metro region and surrounding communities, as well as Conception Bay South, Whitbourne, Clarenville, Burin and Bay Roberts. The program is now being expanded to also include the Bonavista Peninsula and the Clarenville to Glovertown area.

The program provides monthly training sessions and direct support to foster parents. Since 2015, the program has worked with 104 foster parents with 76 currently participating. Many of the foster parents, who have already participated in the Waypoints Supporting Foster Parents Program, continue to share positive feedback about the support received and/or sessions they participate in.
