The deadline to nominate a senior to be recognized through the 2021 Newfoundland and Labrador Seniors of Distinction Awards has been extended to September 3, 2021. This extension is to allow more time for Newfoundlanders and Labradorians to recognize seniors’ contributions and achievements and nominate a deserving senior for the award.
To be eligible for the award, a senior must be nominated by an individual or group, must be 50 years of age or older and be a current or past resident of Newfoundland and Labrador. Seniors who have made notable contributions through paid or volunteer work activities may be nominated. Nominations from previous years will also be considered upon request by the nominator or nominee. Posthumous awards may also be given. Staff from the Seniors and Aging Division of the Department of Children, Seniors and Social Development are available to assist or answer any questions.
The Provincial Government is committed to helping seniors remain healthy, active, engaged citizens, living in their own homes and active in their age-friendly communities through a number of measures. The Seniors of Distinction Awards align with this philosophy and highlight the contributions seniors make to their communities.
