September 2, 2021

The deadline for applications for the 2021-22 Age-Friendly Newfoundland and Labrador Communities Program has been extended to November 19, 2021. Given the ongoing municipal election, this extension will give municipalities more time to learn about the age-friendly communities program and prepare their application.

The Age-Friendly Newfoundland and Labrador Communities Program assists incorporated municipalities, local service districts, and Indigenous governments and organizations, in making their communities more age-friendly.

Funding of up to $10,000 is available for incorporated municipalities and Indigenous governments and organizations to conduct an age-friendly assessment or to implement aspects of an existing Age-Friendly Action Plan. Unincorporated communities, including local service districts, that take a regional approach are eligible for up to $15,000.

The Departments of Children, Seniors and Social Development and Municipal and Provincial Affairs will co-host a webinar on October 14, 2021, to provide municipalities, the opportunity to learn more about age-friendly community assessments, and how to apply age-friendly and universal design principals into current community planning. This will be especially beneficial to newly elected officials. Details will be provided at a later date.
